About the job

The Quality Technician performs the day-to-day inspection, testing, and record-keeping that keep Korpack's production lines compliant with the SQF food safety program and ISO 9001 quality system. The role verifies that incoming materials, in-process product, and finished goods meet customer and internal specifications, and that sanitation, pre-op, and hold procedures are followed and documented. The goal is zero customer quality complaints, audit-ready records at all times, and fast containment of any non-conforming product.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Perform pre-operational, in-process, and post-production inspections on packaging lines; verify line clearance, allergen changeover, and label/lot code accuracy before start-up.
  2. Conduct scheduled in-process quality checks (weights, seal integrity, code dates, package appearance, metal detection/verification where applicable) at defined frequencies and record results on the line check sheets.
  3. Inspect incoming packaging materials and customer-supplied product against specifications and certificates; release, reject, or place on hold per the Inventory Holds procedure (KP/SQF/042).
  4. Place non-conforming product on hold, tag and segregate it, and document the hold, disposition, and release in the hold log.
  5. Verify sanitation is completed and effective at pre-op, mid-shift, and post-shift per the Sanitation Process SOP (KP/SQF/033) and SSOPs; perform ATP or visual swab verification as scheduled.
  6. Calibrate and verify inspection equipment (scales, thermometers, metal detector test wands, calipers) and maintain calibration records.
  7. Monitor GMP compliance on the floor (hygiene, PPE, hairnets, jewelry, glass and brittle plastic) and coach operators on the spot; escalate repeat issues to the Production Supervisor and QA Manager.
  8. Complete all SQF and ISO 9001 records legibly, accurately, and on time; file them per the Document Control procedure (KP/SQF/010) so they are audit-ready.
  9. Collect and retain product samples per customer and internal retention requirements.
  10. Support investigations of customer complaints and internal non-conformances; gather data for root cause analysis and ICAR/CCAR corrective actions.
  11. Participate in internal audits, layered audits, 5S audits, customer audits, and SQF certification audits; help close audit findings.
  12. Assist with training new production employees on quality checks, GMPs, and hold procedures.
  13. Assist with special projects as requested.

Competencies

  1. Thoroughness and attention to detail
  2. Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, and food safety fundamentals
  3. Clear written and verbal communication; accurate record-keeping
  4. Problem-solver who stops the line when something is wrong
  5. Ethical conduct and willingness to report issues
  6. Teamwork and collaboration with production, warehouse, and sanitation staff
  7. Flexibility and willingness to learn
  8. Comfortable with basic computer use (Excel, Word, email, ERP entry)
