About the job

The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the HR function across recruiting, onboarding, benefits, employee relations, compliance, and HR records. The role serves as the first point of contact for employees on HR matters and keeps the company's people processes accurate, consistent, and compliant, so that Korpack can attract, develop, and retain a strong team.

Essential Functions

  1. Coordinate full-cycle recruiting: post openings, screen resumes, schedule interviews, and communicate with candidates and hiring managers.
  2. Administer new-hire onboarding, including offer letters, background checks, I-9/E-Verify, new employee packet, and orientation scheduling; coordinate 90-day review scheduling with managers.
  3. Administer employee benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), leave); support open enrollment and respond to employee benefit questions.
  4. Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS and personnel files; process status changes, terminations, and payroll-related data updates.
  5. Serve as a resource to employees and managers on policies, procedures, and the employee handbook; escalate complex issues to the HR Manager.
  6. Support employee relations by documenting concerns, assisting with investigations, and helping resolve workplace issues fairly and consistently.
  7. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, OSHA recordkeeping) and maintain required postings and reports.
  8. Coordinate training and development activities, including maintaining the training needs schedule and ISO competence/awareness records.
  9. Support performance review cycles, employee engagement initiatives, and company culture programs.
  10. Process workers' compensation claims and leave-of-absence requests.
  11. Prepare HR reports and metrics (headcount, turnover, time-to-fill) as requested.
  12. Assist with special projects as requested.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct reports.

Work environment
This job operates in a professional office environment with occasional time in the warehouse/production areas. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical demands
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.

Position type and expected hours of work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (confirm). Occasional flexibility may be required.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2–4 years of HR generalist or HR coordinator experience
  • Working knowledge of federal and Illinois employment law
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and an HRIS/payroll system
  • Ability to read and write English, follow verbal instructions, and use simple math

Preferred education and experience

  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification
  • Experience in a manufacturing, packaging, or distribution environment
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001 training and competence documentation
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
